Abstract Deconstruction, March 2026
Pastel on paper
Abstract deconstruction in figure drawing is a style that relates to experimentation. The pastels depict the figures through light and shadow. Through the interplay between skin and negative space, the forms are placed in proximity within a set distance to infer the shape of the figure’s poses. The series seeks to illustrate the intentionality behind the patterns that create geometric structures. The thought regarding the figure sits in relation to specific ideas conjured by individuals. Each work emphasizes the unique colors that make up the whole.
Relating to abstraction, the series is to reiterate the depictions of the form. Through the various shades that seek to create volume, the pastels experiment with colors to indicate diversity. The empty spaces do not signify reduction but act to distinguish the color. By viewing the completed works, the contrast of parts are accentuated. Utilizing the style of abstract deconstruction, the volume is portrayed in layers of colors to create a sense of depth. By flattening the space depicted through the white paper, the discourse on deconstruction is applied through pastel.
